Here you will find the best times for surfing, best places to go, away from the summer crowds and the most relaxing spots. We love the village of Carcans Plage, Hourtin Plage, Le Gurp and Le Pin Sec where you can really feel that surfing is a local passion.

The surfer's dictionaryTo be able to speak like a pro, here are some essential surfer terms!
- Barrel: a curved wave in which surfers can go tube-riding.
- Line up: area where the surfer waits for a wave.
- Off shore: wind causing the waves to break more slowly and cleanly
- Peak: take-off point where the wave starts to roll out
- Series: a group of waves which arrive quite close together
- Shore break: Waves which break on the beach
- Swell
- Leash: a cord which attaches the surfer to the board; worn around the ankle with a Velcro strap.
- Wax: spread onto the board so it isn't slippy
The Caraïbos Lacanau Pro Event
The surfing event not to be missed!The famous "Lacanau Pro" started in 1979 and was the first professional surfing competition to be held in France. Still today, surfing professionals get together here to challenge each other in the second round of the Championship Tour. Famous surfers such as Tom Curren, Martin Potter, Damien Hardman, Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina have competed here.
