Réserve Biologique Dirigée de Vire vieille, Vignotte et Batejin

The Vire Vieille, Vignotte and Batejin Biological Reserve: a natural jewel in the heart of the Médoc
Located in the heart of the Médoc Regional Nature Park, the Vire Vieille, Vignotte and Batejin controlled biological reserve extends over 214 hectares along the shores of the Lacanau lake. Managed by the Office National des Forêts and owned by the Conservatoire du Littoral, this reserve protects a unique combination of forests and lakeshores, home to exceptional biodiversity - a veritable natural treasure of the region.

A protected ecosystem
The reserve is made up of several distinct areas, each offering a mosaic of habitats conducive to remarkable flora and fauna. Forest plots, dominated by maritime pines, alternate with areas of wet meadows and shores bordering the pond. These varied ecosystems provide refuge for many rare plant and animal species, making the reserve a special place for nature lovers and scientists alike.

A nature trail
To discover the wealth of local flora and fauna, the Berle nature trail is the best way to immerse yourself in this haven of peace. The trail guides you through the reserve's different environments, allowing you to observe the diversity of the landscape and the wildlife that roams freely. As you follow the trail, you may be lucky enough to spot rare birds such as the grey heron or kingfisher, as well as amphibians and dragonflies that thrive in the wetlands.

A rich and fragile biodiversity
The Vire Vieille, Vignotte and Batejin reserve plays an essential role in preserving the Médoc's endemic species. The lakeshores, transition zones between land and water, are breeding grounds for many aquatic species. The wet meadows, meanwhile, are refuges for rare and protected flora, particularly hygrophilous plants, which find ideal conditions here for their development.

A protected area to be explored with respect
The management of this reserve aims to reconcile the preservation of ecosystems with public access, enabling everyone to enjoy this unique site while respecting its fragility. It is essential that visitors follow the marked trails and respect the tranquility of the area in order to preserve its biodiversity.

Whether you're a nature enthusiast, curious to discover the natural riches of the Médoc Atlantique, or simply looking for peace and quiet, the Vire Vieille, Vignotte and Batejin reserve promises an immersive experience at the heart of a preserved environment rich in discovery.
