Le sentier des canaux

Distance : 8 kmDuration : 1h45Type d'itinéraire : on footDifficulté : Easy

Ideal for a digestive walk lasting less than 2 hours, set off from the lakefront promenade in Carcans to discover the Médoc marshes. The path along the canal des étangs, accessible all year round, invites you to explore the local natural heritage. Whether with family or friends, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the marshes on the canal path, which offers the perfect setting for a Sunday stroll. Want to show your friends and family around this unique area? Look no further than this 8km trail, which starts at Place du Pôle in Carcans-Maubuisson (opposite the Tourist Office) and takes just 1 hour 45 minutes to complete. The route will take you through some fascinating landscapes, from the marshes to the canals built to drain the water, via the Montaut lock. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see a boat passing through its automated lock chamber - an ingenious mechanism worth discovering! And just imagine: the water flowing through here will end up in the Arcachon basin. Just a few kilometres from the town, this path suddenly plunges you into the soothing atmosphere of the Médoc marshes. Whatever the season (but don't forget your boots in winter!), there's something to discover with every step. On the water, you're sure to spot mallards or teal, and perhaps a hunting barrel discreetly set up on the edge of the marsh, a reminder of this traditional practice. If you look up, a black kite could be hovering overhead, or if you're lucky, you might spot a slender osprey in white plumage. On the ground, look out for animal tracks: otters, who love crayfish, often leave behind shells scattered across the sand. Ready for an adventure? Then put on your boots and let's go!
