Marais du Conseiller

Le Marais du Conseiller: a wilderness setting in Le Verdon-sur-Mer
Located in Verdon-sur-Mer, the Marais du Conseiller covers more than 600 hectares, offering a mosaic of natural landscapes worthy of a small Camargue. This vast territory, where water is omnipresent, is distinguished by its salt ponds, once used for salt production and now converted to the cultivation of gambas and oysters, as well as its wet meadows where cows and horses graze peacefully.

A unique, open landscape
The Marais du Conseiller is characterized by a very open landscape, with almost no hedges or trees, giving way to a vast expanse of meadows and stagnant water. Water is the central element here, meandering through large basins, small ponds and channels that form a complex, untamed network. This wetland is home to a multitude of rich and varied ecosystems, home to exceptional species of flora and fauna.

A paradise for migratory birds
Situated on the route of avian migrations, the Marais du Conseiller is a veritable refuge for numerous bird species. Whether it's a seasonal stopover or a more permanent home, the marshes provide an ideal haven for birds. Birdwatchers will be able to observe emblematic species such as waders, birds of prey and wild ducks, who have come to take advantage of the richness of this flooded territory.

Remarkable biological diversity
The biodiversity of the Marais du Conseiller is not limited to birds. It also boasts an impressive variety of plants adapted to wetlands, helping to maintain the area's ecological balance. The regularly flooded meadows are home to grasses and flowers specific to wetlands, while the ponds and pools are ideal habitats for aquatic species such as frogs, dragonflies and numerous fish.

Ecological and educational management
Today, the marsh is under the protection of the Curuma/CPIE Médoc association, which works to preserve this remarkable natural area. Thanks to its sustainable management actions, the association is able to preserve this fragile environment while offering the public an educational discovery of the marsh. In season, guided tours are offered, enabling visitors to better understand the importance of wetlands, their role in local biodiversity and the interactions between man and his environment.
