The Cordouan Lighthouse is not to be missed in Médoc. It is the most famous and one of the most magnificent lighthouses in the world. But in Médoc Atlantique, this is not the only lighthouse to visit, some of the others are still in operation! The Grave Lighthouse at the tip of the Pointe du Médoc, Richard Lighthouse on the shores of the Gironde Estuary, or Hourtin Lighthouse in the middle of the forest. They are all very different but all interesting. This is why it's worth the trip!
Cordouan Lighthouse
The Versailles of the seasCordouan has been listed as a Historical Monument since 1862; it is located just off Verdon-sur-Mer and Royan. When you come to visit, you will most likely meet one of the lighthouse keepers, who have so many stories to tell. After climbing up the 301 steps to the top, you will enjoy the spectacular 360° view, through a telescope.
When I left Cordouan, I felt giddy from the wind and ocean scents. My head was full of information and spectacular images.
