Marais du Logit

The Marais du Logit at Verdon-sur-Mer: a natural setting between dunes and estuary

Located on the border between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary, the Marais du Logit is an exceptionally rich natural site. Separated from the ocean by the coastal dune, the marsh is a unique habitat, combining both fresh and brackish water, creating a rare and preserved ecosystem.

A haven of biodiversity bordered by holm oaks

The Marais du Logit is surrounded by a forest of hundred-year-old holm oaks, forming a dense border that enhances local biodiversity. This mosaic of landscapes, with its mix of woodland and wetlands, provides a haven for numerous plant and animal species. The biological richness of this environment is particularly apparent throughout the seasons, when the local fauna develops in harmony with this preserved environment.

An ideal stopover for migratory birds

Thanks to its strategic location, the Marais du Logit is an ideal stopover for migratory birds. The last stopover before the Gironde estuary, this site welcomes numerous species every year, who come here to rest and feed before continuing their long journey. Birdwatchers will be able to observe a variety of emblematic marsh species, from grey herons to egrets and wild ducks.

A Sensitive Natural Area to discover on guided tours

Classified as a Sensitive Natural Area (ENS), the Marais du Logit is a protected site, managed to preserve its biodiversity and fragile ecosystem. To help visitors better understand and appreciate the beauty of this site, the CPIE Médoc (Centre Permanent d'Initiatives pour l'Environnement) offers guided tours throughout the year. These guided tours will enable you to discover the secrets of the marsh, its history, its flora and fauna, and at the same time become aware of the issues involved in preserving it.
