Low-carbon holiday - Lacanau

Treat yourself to a break in harmony with nature at Médoc Atlantique, in the heart of the Médoc Regional Nature Park! On the program for your weekend: a cycling tour from Lacanau to Carcans, between lakes, ocean and nature reserves, while enjoying the Médoc art of living.

Day 1: Between lake and ocean

Distance : 17-20km
  • 9.30am :Meet at Bordeaux Saint-Jean station to take bus 421 to Lacanau-Océan.

 

  • 11.15am :Arrive at Lacanau Océan. After arrival, just opposite the bus stop, rent bikes from our partner Cycle Central Garage.Option 2 to come to Lacanau: If you want to come with your own bikes, you can take the cycle path from Bordeaux to Lacanau - 66.5km - 4h30

 

  • 12pm :Meet at the Lacanau Tourist Office to obtain a map of the cycle paths and cycle “la boucle du lion”. Discover Lacanau lake - 17.3km - 1h30 total.

 

  • 1.00pm :Meet at La Conche restaurant on Grande Escoure beach.

 

  • 2.30pm :Rent a Paddle with the Lacanau Guyenne Sailing Club and explore Lacanau lake. If it's windy, opt for an introduction to catamaran sailing or windsurfing!

 

  • 4.30pm :Get back on your bike and complete the Lion Loop back to Lacanau.

 

  • 5.30pm :Meet at Yelloh! Village Les Grands Pins to settle in.

 

  • 7.00pm :For your evening, head to the Sunset Bar, a bar on the beach where you can enjoy a drink and taste their dishes or tapas, with your feet in the sand, to admire a Lacanau sunset.

Day 2: From Lacanau to Carcans, close to nature

Distance : 27km

For this 2nd day, continue exploring the destination by bike as far as Carcans Plage and then Carcans Maubuisson along the cycle paths. During this 27 km ride, you can also discover the Etang de Cousseau Nature Reserve.

  • 9.30am :

Departure from Lacanau Océan.

  • 10.30am :

Arrival at Carcans Plage - Take time for a coffee and a stroll along the avenue de la plage.

 

  • 11.30am / 12pm : Arrival at Carcans-Maubuisson. Stroll around this seaside resort and discover France's largest natural freshwater lake! With its 2 km of supervised beaches, Lac de Carcans is ideal for swimming and cooling off after a morning's sport.

For lunch, we recommend Ocean's Bowls, which serves Franco-Vietnamese cuisine based on fresh vegetables and fruit, aromatic herbs and marinades. For dessert, treat yourself to an artisanal ice cream at Salon de la Glace in Maubuisson, one of the best ice cream parlors in the destination!

 

  • 2:00 pm: Departure from Carcans Maubuisson.

 

  • 2:30 pm: Arrival at Etang de Cousseau Nature Reserve.

Park your bikes at point 17 on the cycle route map and visit the Nature Reserve on foot. You'll discover the local flora and fauna, and you can also climb up to the lookout point of the Nature Reserve for a breathtaking view of the Etang de Cousseau, its marshes and forest. A must-see in Lacanau!

  • 4:00 pm: Departure from the Etang de Cousseau nature reserve.

 

  • 5:00 pm: Return to Lacanau Océan.If you have time, don't hesitate to take advantage of the campsite's swimming pool or wellness area.

 

  • 7:00 pm :For this evening, we recommend a drink at the panoramic Café Maritime bar, with its breathtaking view of the ocean. You can also dine in this restaurant afterwards. The chef offers refined, creative French cuisine.

Day 3: Enjoy the ocean

  • 9.30pm :For this last day, to connect with nature and the ocean, you can try your hand at surfing with the Cheeky Family. This surf school, located south of Lacanau, is a haven of conviviality and relaxation. After your surfing lesson, which is suitable for all levels, take advantage of the unique setting of this inn to enjoy lunch at their guinguette, which serves home-cooked dishes.

 

  • 2.30pm :Depending on when you want to leave, return your bikes to Cycle Central Garage and take the bus to Bordeaux (ask our tourist offices for the bus schedule).
